Dierdre Ann Barlow Rashied Dead
« on: November 28, 2012, 16:16 »
Poor Dierdre Ann Barlow Rashied ( Transelyania nacked neck hen) has just died , her wattles and comb were red on Monday and Tuesday Morning however this morning(wednesday 28th) wattles had almost dried up and were purple and her comb limp and pink, she also was cold really cold so  Brought her in the house however she died after 30 mins.
She showed no signs of illness ?? what could be the cause ?? all other hens are fine.
All kept in a clean house and covered run , good feed , clean water with alternating vitamins and acv .
Is this cocci ?

3 girls .............very addictive these girls are becoming

 :(

so sad to hear that you lost a hen.  About 6 months ago, I lost a cockerel. His crow changed pitch but he looked the picture of health. My hubby was shutting them in for the night 10pm ish and he was very cold and stiff, very unresponsive. He got wet as it had been heavy rain and he hadn't gone under cover of run. He brought him inside and worked on him for about 30 minutes too but died infront of the fire  :(

I don't know whether to suggest autopsy. We didn't as all our others remained healthy. My boy was only a year old but could have been his heart or something

Hope someone else can advise on cocci x

How old was she? My TNN died suddenly - she was very greedy and was quite large and this could have been her problem. In France they are widely used as meat birds (and supposed to be very tasty by all accounts) so I think mine ate a lot and moved around very little like a lot of meat birds  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.
