tomatoes.
« on: May 16, 2014, 20:38 »
Hi all
I have been given some Roma plum and San Marzano tomatos.
I was told they are called semi bush. My question is do I have to nip out the tips?
Also how high do they grow.
                                              Thankyou.

I've grown both varieties as both cordons and bush so I suppose it depends how you treat them as to what shape they end up. Nip out side shoots for a cordon and the tip shoot for a bush.

If you're growing as a cordon, i would recommend with these varieties that you let a number of vines grow as they don't grow very tall so don't have many fruit clusters to a vine.

I grow San Marzano as a cordon and get 4 or 5 trusses per plant.

Roma I grow as a bush, and just let it do its own thing - with canes all around to support it  :)
