A mouse among onions
« on: March 22, 2011, 22:59 »
Not at all sure about this.

I love my garden, the growing, the wild life and the seasonal changes. This weekend has seen the first weekend of the year where the ground is dry enough to walk on. So out and about I go.

First stop is my raised bed with last autumns onion and garlic sets. All looks good and are doing well. One small hole in the soil gave me a little concern. Tonight on a late wonder with my torch I bimbled past the frog chorus to the onion bed. Out of said hole appeared a mouse, who scurried around and then popped back into its burrow.

I guess my question is will it do damage to my onions and garlic?

im sure its looking for other things to eat other then raw garlic and onion it may dig and make damage but on the other hand its got its  burrow  so it should not cause any more damage then it already has...... may even do good eating snails slugs? dont know if thats what they eat lmao

may do more harm when they have 100 babys in the next few years...... wheres there's one sure they must be more......... id kill it or trap it what ever you feel is best

Thanks for the reply drmoonshine.

I am thinking it may need rehousing. As you pointed out ones not a problem but one hundred is another matter.

Extradition may be the way forward but I will see.

Thank you

Live and let live. No point in destroying a life if it is doing no harm.

As soon as you start to hoe between the onions your mouse will leave and find another home.

Good Evening Salmo

I think you have just "hit the nail on the head" so to speak. No direct action solves the problem. Brilliant
