Which seeds
« on: April 25, 2008, 21:47 »
Hi. I`m new to growing veg in my garden, and I like to be frugal, thats why I posted my question in here.

My question is.....By looking at the packets of seeds in my local garden centre how do I tell which of them comes true from seed. Obviously the F1 types dont, but does that mean that all the others will ?

thanks in advance

Most I believe are grown from selected stock where cross pollination does not happen, or they are a direct cross of two variety's etc.
Most of us would never know if we didn't get the exact variety we planted any way.

Not much help I'm afraid, we just have to trust the seed companies

I agree with Richy. I buy 90% of my seed from organic heirloom seed companies, and rely on them to keep all the seed varieties as separate as possible. No one and nothing is infallible.
