Title: Too late to move a shrub?

We have a 'Bridal wreath' Spirea next to the coop that I need to move so we can extend the chicken run. (Aren't chooks addictive?)

It's only just showing signs of life in the buds, but was wondering, is it too late to be able to lift and re-site it??

We don't want to get rid of it, we planted it years ago in memory of one of our cats when we first moved into this house.

It should be fine to move it, especially if you get a decent root ball up  :D

Make sure you keep it well watered this summer, and then after that all should be well

Would also suggest putting a mulch on top when you replant, to help retain moisture & protect roots against temperature fluctuations.

The rules are there to be broken!

I moved a couple of red current bushes in very cold weather (near frozen ground) and the day after the temp dropped again and we had snow.  They are doing fine.

You can move anything at anytime but must pay attention to aftercare/triage as noted already.  Dormancy is the 'ideal' time - not the only time.  Apply a mulch, enrich the planting hole, extra water etc etc and you will be fine.  If the plant doesn't survive it was probably in a bad way before you broke ground

It's far from in a bad way, it's the only thing that's thriving because the chickens ignore it.  :blink:
