You're better off with ericaceous compost as blueberries generally prefer acidic soil and can better access nutrients in such.

I live in Wiltshire and I don't use tap water on my lonely bleaberry bush because of the lime/calcium in there.     Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

In addition to the need for acidic (ericaceous) compost, multipurpose compost will be exhausted in terms of nutrients within a few weeks.  Far better to use proper compost for the job, which will be better for the plants longer term.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Remember to feed them with ericaceous feed every now & again if they're in pots, each year at the end of winter,  take off a little of the top layer of compost and add fresh and some mulch, blueberries like to be damp. Enjoy them!

Whilst we're talking about blueberries...

Do I need 2 or more plants for them to be successful? I bought one (not much info on the label) but someone told me that I'd wasted my money as I only got 1.

They will crop much better if another is planted nearby, some will need another plant, some can manage without, it usually says if they are self fertile on the label, or you can google it if you know what variety it is.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find out about this particular plant. I'll also have a nosey around the allotment to see if anyone else is growing blueberries nearby.

Even the varieties which are self-fertile apparently set more and better fruit when cross-pollinated with another variety, which therefore needs to have a similar flowering time.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
