hi all

we are pretty new to chicken keeping. we recently got 2 hens (about 2 1/2 weeks ago) we have been having some eggs sometimes we are getting one a day sometimes none and on one day we got (but that was a one off!) is this normal they both seem fit and healthy could it be the heat or could it be they are still settling in or could it be im not feeding them enoug how much pellets should i be giving? sorry am just a bit confused!

Hi goddards.

Egg production can be erratic, especially when they're still settling in.

For feeding, it's best to keep the feeder full, assumign you're using layers pellets. They will eat what they need and it ensures they get the right mix of nutrients.

Also, make sure they have constant access to calcium and grit, usually poultry grit and obviously water.

hi thank you perhaps i have not been giving them enough then! will fed more and see if that helps! ow long do you think it normally takes to settle in? or is that a bit like asking how long a piece of string is hehe

I should think they'll consider it their home now. Depends how well they're getting on with each other and if they're happy with the decor. They can be very fussy when it comes to wallpaper and carpet.

brilliant will go to homebase and carpetright in the morning and get the builders in hehehe!

they seem to be getting on fine one is a little more fiesty though but there doesnt appear to be no problems im with them quite alot and havent noticed anything!

will more than likely be complainging next week i have too many eggs hehe
