Tomatilla pollination: A solution. Hem hem
« on: July 03, 2011, 19:10 »
Last year I posted a post about the frustrations of tomatilla pollination. This year I have had some success and would like to share my solution with the world.

I planted some bushes of tomatilla amongst borage in a line. Bees like borage. Tomatilla likes to have its roots in the soil and needs bees to fruit.

There are now lumpy husks everywhere and I fully expect to have a crop, enough to make a Mexican salsa.

Tomatilla don't look a cool wind and the borage gives some protection too.

Congrats to me for being a wizzo smarty pants. Hurrah hurrah.

Give me my hoe and let me die like a man.

When I grew tomattilos, Hover flies seemed to do the pollination.

Yep hover flies would do it and I could combine with coriander which seems to attract them. Thanks for the tip.
