Oops, Tomato dilemma
« on: June 26, 2011, 17:36 »
I have about 6 toms in my cold frame in pots - i forgot them ::)  I went to have a feel today and they have rooted into the seed tray that was underneath them.  They are growing happily but they are in small pots and the seed tray isnt huge.  Should i leave them to see how they go or risk root damage by pulling them up and re-planting where i originally planned?

I'd leave them, soak the soil around them well and mulch it too --- feed as normal through watering via the top of the pot and they should crop well  :D

Id replant them.  ::)

The damage may set them back a bit but unless they're in really small pots the plants will recover. Plant them a little deeper when you move them on too.

You can do as sunshine suggests, or, you can carefully dig them out and replant where wanted. Tomatoes are one of the very few forgiving plants. Just be sure to water well for a few days so they can recover quickly.

I had a tomato plant that survived the winter in barely frost fee greenhouse, that had grown from a seed from afallen fruit last year.

I potted it on when it got to be a foot high with flowers on it --- and it's fine.

As Trillium says -- they are forgiving plants  :D
