Wormery!
« on: July 26, 2006, 13:16 »
She is very excited ! She has just drawn off over a litre of liquid from her Homemade wormery and wondered if anyone knows what a suitable dliution rate would be??!

I would say your guess is as good as mine as the concentration is unknown in the first place! (Compare the 'smelly barrel' post earlier! or perhaps the comfrey chaps know something?)  Best wishes, long suffering Oliver :?
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

What are you planning to water with it?  Dilute would be my suggestion for someting tender and a little stronger for those well established plants.
Little and often is my policy for feeding.  If you have seen the pictures of my plot I trust you will agre with my decision.
Happy growing
Enjoying the traditional ways and values of life.

.... instructions or something?
 Its homemade, you see, so we even had to collect the worms off the plot. So perhaps we need to find someone with a 'commercial' one and see what their instructions say!

I dilute mine at about 10 parts water to one part worm juice.
Although it does depend on the how 'stewed' (like tea) the juice looks!
Wormeries are great except that you can't put onion and citrus fruit peeling on them. We also have a home made one made out of black stacking crates. Just one word of warning - don't use the worm compost on indoor plants without sterilising (?microwave?) first otherwise you tend to get millions of fruit/fungus flies which are pesky little blighters and not very nice to have in every room of your house!

Dear Jenny - thank you very much indeed for that sage advice.  House plants were going to get the worm compost! They have enough fruit flies as it is (not to mention pollen bugs and ... )
