I don't know UK prices, but as long as the tree is in a pot, you can plant it anytime. You might want to phone around to other garden centres in your area and ask prices, and then you'll get an idea if that one is good or not. Fruit trees here run the equivalent of about 38 pounds this year.  >:(

or you can wait till spring for all the low cost trees available from Lidl, Aldi etc. I think they were about £6 this year (someone will correct me if I'm wrong :D )
Not a great choice of varieties, but great value for money  ;)

You just need to be careful about rootstocks in the cheaper varieties.

It generally doesn't say what rootstock is being used, so you could end up with a large specimen over time
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If I recall my gardening lessons correctly, the name of the variety is not the same thing as the rootstock.

You could have variety A but grafted onto rootstock 1,2, or 3.  Therefore you could have the same variety but the rootstock determines eventual size of tree.

So, if I do remember aright, you need to know the rootstock as well as the variety.

Others will correct me if I'm wrong ...

Up here in the Peak District they were £3.99 for two year old trees.  Bought a load of them and all doing well so far.

If you do decide to plant anything now, then make sure you give them plenty of water throughout the summer. As they won't have a massive root system they will be more vulnerable to drought so they will love the extra water.
