Too late for aubergines and peppers?
« on: April 14, 2010, 19:24 »
I bought a gardening magazine today that came with some free seeds. There's tomato (don't need them), aubergine and sweet peppers.

Is it too late to start the aubergines and peppers off now indoors on a windowsill? I have a greenhouse for them after that.
It was February's edition but I didn't notice that until I bought it .
First timer, NOT enjoying the backache anymore!

It's not ridiculously late.  They'll be fine if we get some good weather. :)

Space!!! I just didn't want to waste loads of windowsill space I don't really have if they weren't going to come to anything.

I might do a bit of jiggery pokery and see if I can squeeze them in.

Peppers can cope with smallish pots so you could put them out for the summer and if they don't get time to ripen bring them in for the winter to ripen. I've got one I planted out in the garden last year, dug up in the autumn and left on a window sill in a 6" pot all winter and it's just flowering again now.

I only planted mine on Tuesday.  :)  On the packets it says "January to April" on the aubergine and "February to April" on the peppers, so I reckon it should be alright.
