is there any value in the old soil in garden pots after the plants have gone?  we are not allowed to put it in the green bin so I am just putting it on a bit of the flowerbeds where nothing grows at the moment...

I reuse mine mixed with the kitchen veg scraps in bean trenches,planting stations for my parsnips and as a general soil conditioner. Here's a link from a couple of weeks ago with some other ideas :

I put mine in the compost heap or mix it into my seed beds.
