Going to put an Asparagus bed together. Are Autumn planted crowns any good or, should I opt for the Spring varieties?

I'm not sure of the answer but would say if starting now it could be worth spending from now till spring making the bed as weed free as possible.

I was hoping to make the bed weed free at the start with good top soil etc.
