I have noticed some of our Calabrese have formed yellow flowers. Is this normal or has it gone to seed?

'Fraid so

I would say lack of water, but I somehow dont think so! This can happen if they are planted too close together?

Apparently on googling it,  its not worth eating now :-(

mine's all (and I mean all) gone to seed too     I was really looking forward to it too

If the ground is not compact enough (as sprouts like a compact ground and will blow if the ground is too loose) would that be a cause of them bolting?

Last year nearly all our calabrese went to seed early and was told that can happen when plant growth has been 'checked' in some way, i.e. growth inconsistent for whatever reason. We think ours spent too long in cells at the seedling stage before moving them on. This year we were careful to prick out/pot on/plant out at appropriate times and had much more success, not perfect mind, but better!

I'm worried mine might be too close together now.

No sign of any heads yet but can't be long now...

:?  Mine spent far too long in their cells than I really wanted them too, and they dried out once or twice too.... it's not looking good for the rest of them then

Same here. It was a 'timing' issue,as mine needed to go in before our holiday, but I just ran out of time. All have gone to seed. But the good news is, they've protected my Cauli's from the cabbage whites. So its not all bad news :)

Timing is everything, that's why the pensioners and weeds always win, since they are at it at 24 hours.
