Wave and shout and run around, in case of pigeons, you gotta be real close, too.

I usually scare birds by chatting to them in the pub

My dad used to tie strips of plastic bags to string and then hang that across the parts of the veg bed that he had planted seed.  Supposedly the plastic flapping in the wind frightens birds.  Not sure how effective it was though.

I've put a photo of the mother in law on the shed.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I was dead chuffed about a month ago when I transplanted my first 1/2 doxen beetroot from seed trays to the plot, turns out the birds were chuffed too and each day nibbled away more of the tender young leaves, after a few days I found out about hanging cd's and havent had a problem since.

What I am doing is 2 bits of wood staked in to the ground  either side of were the seedlings are.
Tie a bit of string from either end.
Then hang cds from the main line with more string.
Looks a bit like below.

I use the thin plastic humming lines stretched across the beds , lots of garden shops sell it, all it needs is to be taut, and a breeze to make it hum
