Too Late For Potatoes???
« on: April 19, 2008, 20:16 »
I'm having my new very overgrown allotment ploughed tomorrow and should be ready to go, planting wise, earlyweek. I've just bought some seed potatoes today on the hope I'll be ok. Bought some second earlies and main crop. Will i be ok ???

Regards :D

It's not too late for spuds to go in, but you'll need to keep an eye on weeds regrowth if your overgrown weeds are simply being ploughed in.

I'd probably try to remove what I could before planting, as it's hard to disturb the earth once spuds are growing.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Well I'm hoping the round up should take care of any regrowth, I've given the ground two very comprehensive sprayings and the grass is turning already, so here's hoping

No point in trying to beat mother nature.

If it's too cold and too wet then its not too late. :D

My Mum got her plot in April last year.

By the time I'd 'borrowed' some beds from her and bought some potatoes (2nd earlies I think that went straight into the ground without chitting) I think it must have been almost, if not, May.

Due to the weather I've only just managed to get my new plot cleared and some beds dug so I'm hoping to get my spuds in next week (although I have injured my neck & back and my osteopath told me not to go planting things yet!)  :x

We have had our first earlies in for weeks now but we have had some rubbish weather which might not have helped our crop!

When should the main crops go in then?
