I'm off to my 1st allotment meeting tonight...

not too sure what to expect... I'll fill you in later!  :)

Well that was quite interesting.... we have 112 plots on our site and there were about 20 plot holders there in total!

There were moans about fences flying round in the wind.... dog mess..... people not shutting the gate when last out at night (even though someone has nicked the security chain!)..... rats by the pigeon sheds... and a rabbit alert!

Apparently one of the new plot holders has had contractors in to do about a £1000 worth of work! The old timers thought that it wasn't in the spirit of allotmenteering and that they should be excluded from competitions!

But... I did make a good contact for pallets and manure!! Woo hoo!

So the next meeting is in October.... I'll be an old hand by then!

We have great meetings. Skip, water, manure are the main subjects every time. We've got our trading hut going though.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Are you sure it wasnt the lottie that Joe Swift was on. What with the 1000 quid makeover and connections for manure and pallets. Now we know why you were sticking up for him. lol
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

Our AGM is held in the local Methodist church, but the actual committee meetings are in the local pub.  It's a great deal - we get the room free, they get us buying drinks...

And after the meeting ends at 9pm, we stay on for the pub quiz.  Even won it last time!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

careful Alex,  that's exactly what happened to me last year and this year I'm treasurer as well!!   (Not from choice either - no one else put themselves forward for it so I had to otherwise we'd not have a treasurer   )

It's fun tho'!

Good Luck with setting up as an association  :D   I wasn't an allotmenteer when our association was set up so can't offer any help, but you have to have a turnover of £5k to be classed as a charity :?:  :?  :?

We looked into this last year so that we could claim tax back but to no avail  :(

You'll have to take this with a pinch of salt, because I'm not a tax accountant, and know nowt about charity law, despite being a management accountant for a charity, but.

£5000
122plots

£40.99p each.
Shouldnt be hard to get everyone to spend £41 on their lottie a year, keep the receipts, call them Joes allotment ltd expenses and have them pay £41 lottie fee's.

Not sure if it could work exactly like that. but something to look into
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended
