Store tomatoes anyone
« on: October 03, 2022, 11:49 »
This year I have grown De Colgar.
Don't think much of it.
Blossom end rot. Can't recall ever having that cleared up now but lost a lot because of it.
Also rather soft.
Preference large tomatoes.
Firm tomatoes
And a shape that doesn't encourage blossom end rot. Someone says concave end is  more likely to get blossom end rot.

The title of your thread suggests you're asking a question - if so, I'm not sure what it is.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

De Colgar is a hanging/storage tomato, so looking for a a better variety of this type, I presumed...

I'm wading through my notes/posts to see which variety I grew in the past. It may take a while, as my memory is not what it was  Although it couldn't have been that good, 'cos I don't remember repeating it, either   ::)

I tried the appropriately named Long Keeper tomato  :)
https://www.victoriananursery.co.uk/Tomato-Seed-Long-Keeper/
It did what  it said on the packet, but they don't  stay crisp and juicy like a summer tomato  :( I like my fruits to be on the acid side for taste, and these aren't plus the texture became mealy after being stored.
So sorry nut much help am I ?
