Pusa Jwala Chilli
« on: June 27, 2021, 21:06 »
Good evening everyone, bit damp out there.

I'm growing some  Pusa Jwala Chilli plants in the greenhouse all normal so far, one seems to have very fine and very long orange tendrills growing from its stem.  They seem to circle the stem a couple of times then head off across the soil!  Any ideas as to what's happening?  It has only appeared on one plant which is only 3" high as yet.

Cheers,  Tony
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Never had that Tony and I grow these a lot.
I will check mine tomorrow just in case I have just never noticed it.

Just checked and no sign of any other type of growth. Do you have a photo?

Good morning Aidy,  I'll try and get a snap of the tendrills.

Addendum,  after very close scrutiny I can say they are growing from the stem of the plant and not winding round from some other source.  Cheers,  Tony.

Mutant Chilli plant!
It looks more like a separate invasive plant/weed. Is it definitely growing from the stem of the chilli?
I've never ever seen anything like that before!
Over to those with more knowledge than me. I'll watch with interest.

I thought it looked like Bindweed, growing alongside the stem/growing up it - so you are not alone..

Looks like Dodder, a parasitic plant.

It appears to be quite rare now and endangered, perhaps Kleftiwallah should sell it on big auction site!

Tendrill update, armed with a kneeler, magnifying glass, tweezers and a cup of tea I have removed all the tendrills.  They didn't seem to come up from the ground and neither did they seem to eminate from the stem of the chilli.  I shall keep you up to date.

I managed to graft quite a few tom's onto Estamino rootstock and one we call breakfast (variety unknown but tasted good on toast), is growing away like Jack's beanstalk!

Cheers,  Tony.
