Apple Tree pruned - what next!!
« on: July 25, 2016, 12:27 »
Hi All,

The apple tree was pruned in March this year.  As you can see it has grown hundreds of water shoots and little fruit set.  What do I do next?  How many shoots should I remove?.  Will the ones kept (shortened) produce fruit next year?

Advice please.

Only leave the water shoots that you want to grow into permanent  branches. Cut the rest back now, to about 4 or 5 leaves on this year's wood to encourage spur formation.
