just wondering what is the easiest way to buy my potatoes to grow, i got my allotment today and would like to get some potatoes in the ground if possible, roasting or jacket varieties

Our local Been and Queued still have some along with onion and shallots. Also Home Bargains are selling them off cheap.

No you are not too late, I got my plot 6 years ago on 10th June, that year I planted some spuds that I was given for free by a local GC on the 21st June, I got a nice little crop, not huge but enough to keep me happy, it also meant that the soil was under cultivation.

If its any consolation, my tomato crop this year can only described as poor. Grown in a greenhouse from seed, the cherry toms produced few fruit branches, the moneymakers gave a reduced crop of big tomato's although I did get a 1st at the local show with Tigerella, not a prolific crop tho' and pulled up last weekend due to what looked like blight.
Potatoes on the allotment: first and second earlies were reasonable, main crop Deserie's got blight so I cut the tops off and left them in for about a week. The crop looked a bit warty and small due to stopping them. What I did save have been good to eat but the size and yield won no prizes this year.

As I understand it, blight spreads when temperature and humidity combine at a critical mix. So, next year I will give main crop a miss and grow lots of earlies. My plot isnt big enough to rotate all the crops.

Its just down to nature I think. Some crops have been quite poor this year, but my Celeriac??? Best Ive ever managed! Dont know why, and brassicas have been lush too.

Ah well, its early but the land is being cleared now, looks barron so early but there's always next year to go again. We could do with a good long penetrating cold winter to kill off bad things and a warm spring. Fingers crossed eh?
