Title: weed killer

Got an lottie that is full of weeds, have planted a few spuds and onions but the whole place is overgrown.  Now the guy on the next allotment looks like he has been up and sprayed his, will this have an effect on mine.  I was actually now thinking of spraying Glyphosate on mine.  Just to clear it and get a new start.  What is the general feeling about this?

The purists would say no to glyphosate.  Personally, I would use it and after a few weeks I would hopefully use as few chemicals as possible on my crops.  I regard it as a good one off solution to problematic weeds, not a good ongoing alternative to hard work on the plot.

hi there glyphosate (round up) gives you the edge and gives you the chance to get ahead and then you should ok as long as you keep the weeds down , it doesnt harm the soil , use it , i use it every spring to give me the edge

It all depends on how anti weedkiller/pesticide/chemicals you are. Personally I don't trust Monsanto (glyphosate's producers) further than I could throw them. It doesn't break down in the soil nearly as fast as they originally claimed btw.
It also depnds on how (im)patient you are. ;)

depends on your own angle on things but me I'd spray it off, helps you get ahead be prepared to have to respray as it wont kill it all 1st time round.
Even if you use it there will be less residue on your own crops than on most shop bought stuff anyway
