Title: Broad Beans
Post by: Aileen Searle on June 11, 2021, 19:54
Hi there, I'm new to this group, so I have a large healthy patch of broad beans, all of a sudden they re covered with swarms of large buzzy house flies, the black fly are not a problem as I also have loads of lady birds, but therefore I cant spray them, Never seen this before, Any ideas please as to why, and how to get rid . thanks

Might be worth checking that there isn't something dead hidden amongst them

Welcome to the site  :)

I've not encountered this before, but do let us know if there's nothing obvious for the houseflies to be feeding on.  They're not really plant-eaters

Hello and welcome. Definitely check for either something dead or animal muck amongst the plants. I say this as a local fox dropped a gift near my onions last night and the flies were the giveaway sign.

Not helpful, but I had the same problem with my brassicas. Loads of flies trapped under the mesh. I looked for dead things and poo, but nothing.
