Which bark/wood chips for chickens
« on: August 14, 2010, 12:25 »
I want to get some bark to cover our mud area for the chicks to scratch in and seem to remember seeing a comment that you should buy the one for kids areas rather than the garden one. Is this correct and if so why?  Also is there. Difference between bark and wood chips or is it the same thing? Thanks.

People use the play bark as it has been treated and shouldn't have mould spores on it  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Almost all bark chips sold are conifer based so you should be fine with that Alan.

I use bark and hose it down weekly to keep it clean.  I dig it all out and replace it every 3 months, but I do have quite a big run so you might want to replace it more often in a small run . I re-use it as garden mulch and the chicks and the garden seem to do fine  :)
