how do you start your beans,I never have any luck with direct sowing into the ground so I always start mine in those six pack bedding trays and then plant out at about 10-12 inches high

I soak bean seed overnight and then i always start them off in Toilet Roll Centers filled with dryish MPC. I have had very few failures.

Last year they were grown at home first, this year I stuck them in the ground - both worked well, except the ones we pushed in too far.

I make gzillions of those paper pots from old newspaper. I've always started my runners off in there - one to a pot - and planted them out as and when. Because you plant them pot and all - there's no root disturbance. I always get nearly 100% germination rate and when they're planted - they all do well and romp away.
