What do I do this autumn to ensure a good crop of cherries and strawberries next year?  Also I have quite a few healthy strawb' runners rooted and growing strongly, when should I plant them in the ground and can I pick from them next year?

Strawberries plant once they are well rooted in well prepared ground not that they are very fussy (old guy told me they were weeds that produced fruit).       Cherries not so sure but a mulch around but not touching the tree always helps as long as the ground is wet before you mulch

If your strawb plants are this year's, just root one plant from each runner and cut the rest of the runners off so as not to exhaust them too much. If not, take more as the parent plants will need replacing in 4-5 year's time. If you plant them now and get them well-established before winter, they should crop well next year.
