On the morning of Weds. 2nd, Three of our chicks hatched out, (in our incubator) and two of the remaining three eggs had holes in them, where the chicks had pierced the shell.
All going well, one of the two remaining chicks hatched out early afternoon, but the other still with the peirced hole and its tiny beak just sticking out. By about 11 o, clock last night still not moved, just sat with beak just sticking out slightly,it had been like this for over 12 hrs, So my wife and I decided to intervene and give the little one a bit of a chance.

At 2 30 weds morn after a very delicate piece of surgery (as in a pair of tweezers and a bright light and some cotton buds), we managed to chip away over half of the shell and membrane to release the chick. We had thought it might not survive the night, but to my amazement, I got up at 6 30 to have a look and there it was running round the incubator, looking a bit weary but other wise ok. Put the little one in with the other chicks and all is well.

On the down side, the last egg had a fully grown chick, but it had died in the shell without pipping.
