Flubenvet
« on: August 05, 2011, 12:44 »
I'm going to worm the girls and have the flubervet ready in sachets.

Instead of missing it with layers pellets can I just put it on a treat - say a grape each ( I only have 6 girls)  so  I know they are done and can then go off and free range a bit during the day.  If so - how much for each grape?  They normally get some sort of greens every day so I don't think 1 grape each for 7 days will spoil them too much....

I must admit I worm mine that way. The trouble is they will kill each other for a grape, so unless you separate them and give them an individual grape each there's a risk one will pinch from another. You could end up with one hen who's had 2 or 3 and others who have had none!

I've already thought of that but with only six (all different colours) it's easy to tell them apart!  Just need to know how much to give each grape!  I read it here once before but for the life of me can't find it now!

I just split each grape and put a pinch of flubenvet on the inside.

Day 1 - treated each hen to a small piece of cat food with a pinch on ...took longer than I thought as although they gobble down cat food when they can get to the cat bowl this eyed it very carefully today!

I'll tempt them with grapes tomorrow.

I've been reading this with interest as I will soon have to worm my girls.  I like the idea of putting the flubenvet on a grape and was wondering if I could do the same with a cherry tomato which they both love.  Having said that, I bet they would be happy with grapes too  :tongue2:
When I was young we used to go 'skinny dipping,' now I just 'chunky dunk.'

Funny enough I did consider cherry tomatos today as I have a few in the fridge.  Trouble is the 2 x legbars who are a little tricky to tell apart, aren't keen on them.  It's just trying to find what all 6 will die for that's the problem.  Cat food wasn't the answer today.  However, after a trip to the supermarket tomorrow grapes will be on offer so fingers crossed ....

PS  Still not entirely sure of the correct dosage for each hen on a daily basis!!
