Poultry suppliers
« on: May 31, 2009, 22:28 »
Hi everyone, do you have any advice about where to get things like Poultry Shield and Diatom please?  I live in Milton Keynes and have visited the local farm shops and pet superstores but can't find anything other than layers pellets, dry corn and mealworms.  I know I can get it on the internet which is fine but would like some suggestions of good/reasonably priced suppliers.

Thanks all, one week in and we are loving it more each day!

Hi Elcie, don't know the shops round your way I'm afraid, but we have a place in Spalding and Stamford called Stamford Animal and pet supplies that sell some of the red mite, poultryshield stuff, but I find its cheaper on the internet.

I think we got our last lot of poultryshield from Flytesofancy.  Must get some more before the dreaded mite come back.  I've just heard from one of our customers in Kings Lynn, he's got a bad infestation of mites poor soul.

Agree with Grannie Annie there....flytesofancy...prices are good and delivery is quick too!!!!

Other than that it's your local horsey place.  They will sometimes stock it....

Thanks again for the advice.  I found them online, ordered late Sunday evening, and my parcel arrived today!  Excellent service and I would recommend them to anyone considering using an internet site for poulty supplies.

Good to see you have found a supplier already... I just thought I'd throw this one into the mix too...

I've used Chicken House before with no problems :)

Also in the lincolnshire area is http://www.holmefarmpoultry.co.uk/, gaz sells fertile eggs on ebay, with good hatch rates even after going through the post. At his place in Kirton Holme, near Boston he sells fertile eggs, hens (lots of breeds - has some nice silkies in there at the moment), rheas, ducks (says everyone wants chocolate coloured ones at the moment, wonder why  :D) geese, ostriches plus he has mini pigs that grow to only 14 inches high - sooooooo cute :D. He has a small shop selling all things to do with poultry health care and feed. He doesn't sell organic feed but will get some in if you ask him (like I do). At the moment they are building a bigger shop and a tea room. Cannot fault the service or his husbandry, most of my birds have come from him and had no problems with any of them. Just bought my new black araucanas from him yesterday.
Staffies are softer than you think.
