Post by: Fluff on August 25, 2008, 00:39
Want to make the standard A frame poultry ark.

Its for two birds currently but up to eight possibly.

Want to be able to move it around lottie

Sleeping/ egg laying above/ run below and possible add on run.

Easy access for cleaning and nest boxes.

If anyone knows plans /cutting list on internet.  Can they forward link.

Alternative if anyone has details of a good flat pack buy one that they can recommend. Also please forward link.

Cheers Al

Here is the one I built..........

http://www.ashton-online.com/HTML/Hens.htm

I do have some more detailed pictures if you want them......I used this website to get a rough idea of the sizes.

If you click on specifications then you get the sizes which I found very useful......the rest I just sort of made up!!

Hope this helps

If you're moving an arc full of chickens around an allotment remember that foxes can dig - especially in recently dug ground.  A 10-12" weld mesh skirt flat on the ground around it will help to prevent dig-ins

Cheers Andy thats exactly it. Do you have an idea of what it cost u to make it.  I love the design but cant equate spending that much on a chicken house.  There are cheaper versions an I have to weigh up material costs plus my time.  If there is one for 100 more than making one is it worth the time.  Thanks again if you have more details I would appreciate   :)

Thanks Auntie .  I have some old corrugated sheets that I lay round the edge of the ark to stop our foxy friend taking too much interest.

Well mie cost around £80 to make and I think it will hold up to 4 hens at a push, I think if you were to make a longer one you may be looking at about £150ish I say that as I bought the wire from ebay and I had loads left so all you would really need extra is the wood!!

The actual houses on the website were so expensive which is why I opted to make my own, I did loads of searching th net and could fidn anything much cheaper than that really!!

If you do decide to go down the build it your self route I do have lots more pictures of how I actually built it!!

Hope this helps.......
