Title: The joy of poultry
Post by: kizza on December 16, 2006, 18:37
Cleaned all chickens out today, disinfected the shed and swilled it out. Put all fresh barley straw in their next boxes and all on the floor, about a good 6 inches deep to keep them warm, when i'd finished i stood back and admired my work, watching the hens scrath and forage in the straw on the floor, they were loving it ( it looked so cosy). Does any one else feel good when they clean their animals out and stand back and watch the animals enoying them selves in their nice clean bed and make you feel happy?

Oh yes!  Cleaned out the run last night and then put the clean straw in this morning.  I used to spread it out for them but it's easier and more fun for them to pile it at one end, the love raking through it and scattering it about.   They also jump off the ramp into the straw repeatedly like kids playing (I'm not making this up!).
