« on: October 19, 2010, 21:35 »
hi all i wonded what is the best of drying chillis is at this time of year is? I was going to string them up and ideally would still like to although im worried they will rot as the research i have done says to hang out doors in the sun

could someone please advise, i have looked at previous posts but havent found them that helpful.....
If needs be i suppose i could dry in the oven but am unsure of this process also, but would ideally like them hanging in my kitchen :)
They are quite chunky cayenne.

Mine are strung and hung in my conservatory window. Alternatively, could string them and hang them in an airing cupboard?

I've got one Ristra hanging right next to the boiler in a very warm spot. The other one is hanging in front of a very drafty window in a very cold spot. Both are drying out beautifully with no sign of rotting.

Last year I got my chillies dried and I put them in the jars but they then went mouldy

I have tonnes of the things and beans to dry and am thinking of investing in a drier rather than having tonnes of veg dangling all over the place  :D

You could think of them as Autumn decorations, CQ. :D

At a stretch  :D  I've got beans drying in there and it does look a sight  :D  I did remove some of the foliage yesterday to improve matters somewhat  8)  At the moment it's ok as the place is a bit of a dumping ground for building materials for an outbuilding we have going on but once that's done I've got to transform the room into a Christmas heaven. So it's out with the paintbrushes again  :nowink:
