Sowing calendar
« on: January 02, 2019, 08:40 »
Hi chaps, me again ... I've been looking for a sowing calendar, something very basic if someone can point me in the right direction. One of the things I've come across is (eg on a well known seed supplier's web site) they often don't make it clear whether the seeds should be planted indoors, in or not in a propagator, outdoors direct or in a cold frame etc etc. I'm not a total amateur and can use some common sense but some guidance might help remind me about what I should be doing in the next few months ? ... let's face it I can't remember what I ate for breakfast let alone what I planted last year and when !

If you want more detail on things. how about the month by month guides that John has on the main site.  That might be easier to follow - link here  :)

Or this site's sowing and harvest chart, which shows sowing as indoors (in the warm) or outdoors http://www.allotment-garden.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Vegetable-Sowing-Harvest-Chart.pdf

Apart from maybe chillis most things that need sowing indoors only need the extra warmth available on a window ledge, under a clear cover or in a polybag, although a heated propagator does speed up germination a bit more. I find that chilli seeds only germinate in heated propagators

Thanks for the link, MoS, duly printed off as a clear reminder of what I need to do as the year progresses.  It will save me keep rifling through the seed packets.

I made  one to take continuity into account, and allows you to record actual sowing and harvesting dates compared to the program so that it can be modified for your location.

However as it's an excel file, I don't seem to be able to upload it. Anyone got any clues?
