Title: Speckledy losing Breast feathers
Post by: Pavlodge on May 21, 2012, 20:03
My speckledy is losing Breast feathers & has gone bald in that area.  I thought she had just gone broody as she is continuallt in the Nest box  but when I open it her tail feathers are raised & When I picked her up her feathers felt "stiff" & she was bald on the breast .  Any ideas.
Also Hens have stopped laying at regular time & today only got 2 eggs instead of 6 0r 7 .  There has been a fox about as I lost 5 birds from another pen last week .

hi there. we have a black rock with a similar condition to yours. see my post "bald hen" she is not broody at the moment although we do have a broody hen aswell at the moment!! if you have any tips or hear of any advice i would be most grateful if you could pass it on. most people are of the opinion that she is in moult but i am not convinced because a) she has been like this for quite a while and b) i thought the moulting process took place in autumn/winter. anyway good luck with your girl . peter and jean
