Rhubarb going to seed

Hi for the second year running my rhubarb is going to seed we have'nt even picked any yet, it is 3 years old has plenty of room, and was manured in the autumn, whats going on.

i noticed a flower spike coming this morning on one of the plants i grew from seed last year, i wont be picking from this plant this year but i have still cut the flower off, i have 4 other plants but none of them have done it, i wondered if it was lack of water but we have had a very wet winter so that doesn't make sense. i suppose every plants aim is to set seed so it not that strange really.

Both of my roots have sent up a flower spike, which is of course snapped off now!

I think it's probably a reaction to the bad weather we had........you know the 'set seed before I die option'

They should settle down and behave now though

Hi thanks for your replies I will watch it like a hawk and snap them off as soon as seen.

Those seed spikes are just natural events. I always get quite a few in mine and snapping them off asap at the base is the best solution to keep edible stalks coming. If you let them go to seed, the whole plant stalls quickly.
