24 inches wasted!
« on: August 02, 2016, 11:17 »

This year I have grown "Early Onward" and "Hurst Greenshaft" growing to abpout 3' 6".  They have performed very well but...I grow them up sections of mesh I 'aquired' from somewhere, that is 6 feet tall.

Now then, without going daft (about "Alderman and Telephone" etc)  is there a pea that grows to 5 feet, or very close?

Looking forward to hearing your replies :).  Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Realseeds say they have Serpette Guilloteau that ought to top out at 1.5m. Maybe you could ask them if that is suitable?

Champion of England, also from Real Seeds grows to 5-6 feet.   A couple of varieties not widely available but can be sourced from the Heritage Seed library when they offer them are Stokesley and Sutton's Purple Podded.

Champion of England = excellent cropper @ 9-10 peas/[pod (6ft)
 Stokesley = excellent cropper@ 9-11 peas/pod (5ft)

Purple Podded = mediocre with far fewer peas per pod, on average 5 (5-6ft)

All grown next to each other

Hope that helps
