Gardeners fingernails
« on: June 17, 2018, 12:48 »
I have very long finger nails, which I look after and always wear nail-polish.
Here are 2 tips to help look after them, well 3 actually,
No 1:
Wear gloves - if you are like me and never wear them, and dig your garden with bare hands, follow tips 2 and
3
No 2:
Before gardening, gouge your nails into a bar of hard soap, and leave it there for the duration.
No:3
When you have washed your nails after gardening, then use a spare toothbrush and gently rub your nails with whitening toothpaste and all the discolouration will go.

I am full of (mostly useless) information,  regards Mrs Bouquet

Thanks for the tips Mrs Bouquet. Every year I start off, promising myself I will wear gloves this year. Every year, after 2 or 3 visits to the garden I can't find 'm anymore and soon decide to stop bothering..

Because I sell my fresh products (based on fermented nuts) at a farmers market my hands must look really clean  ::) So there I go, in the future: I will try and clean them with toothpaste.

Actually I am going now, so wil dig in a bar of soap first.

My nails are strong and grow long, despite me abusing them! I use the rubbing soap under fingernails as an aid to get them clean after a plot visit.
It's getting the ingrained dirt out of thumb and index finger that I have trouble with, sometimes even pumice stone doesn't work  ::)
Yes, I know I should wear gloves, my son even brought me a posh Laura Ashley pair to encourage me to do so, but I can't seem to get into the habit, though  :nowink:
