Courgettes - help please
« on: April 05, 2008, 19:18 »
I have grown several different varieties of courgettes from seed this year because I love eating them.
One of them called Golden Zuchini has started to grown very pale leaves almost yellow? Is this normal for this variety or is there something wrong with it. All the others are normal darkish green.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

are they in pots or containers or worse still outside? to be honest I dont think about starting mine off until mid april at the earliest, looking mid end of may to transplant.

All I can suggest is that they may have either been over watered or there is a lack of nutrients in the compost if they are in pots inside.

They are in pots in a heated (at night) green house. They were pricked out into 3" pots 2 wks ago. They look extremely healthy just a different colour to the rest of my courgettes.

Hi- Havent been over watered. If it was lack of nutrients in compost, I think all the plants would be affected. Was worried in case it was some kind of virus?

It may be Verticillium Wilt ?

The symptoms are : lower leaves turning yellow moving up the plant.

Young plants in cold conditions are succeptable.

Mosaic Virus could be the culprit too,but this is more of a mottled yellow appearance. :?

Yes, thats what i wanted to know really, had anyone else grown these and was it normal to have yellowish/golden leaves as well as fruit. They really do look healthy, I have googled all the mosaic virus pictures and all the leaves look crinkled as well as discoloured, so I doubt that its a virus. I will feel a right plonker if this is normal!!

No i'm afraid, not the case unfortunately.

Even yellow or golden courgettes still have green leaves. :D

It would make for a more colourful garden if it were the case though if the leaves were the same colour as the fruit.

I'm growing some Brandywine Tom's this year.

That would be a psychodellic looking Greenhouse. :D

Peace man !

sometimes young courgette leaves do have a yellow look its usually not to much to worry about unless the leaves are distorted or the plant looks sick i wouldnt worry too much if your sure its not cold or overwatered try giving it a little liquid feed

sometimes it can be just one of those quercks of nature like an albino hedgehog
Everyone should grow their own veg and know where their food is coming from even if it is only a one pot on a patio or balcony Grow Something!!
