I've been given some poppy heads to dry and eventually plant. Anybody know what the planting and growing requirements are for oriental poppies?

We simply shake the heads over a patch of ground in the garden and let them get on with it!

That reminds me - there's a chap a couple of plots along from me who has them most gorgeous double red, frilly poppy on his plot.... I intend to ask for a seed head when I see him and offer a swap of something in return

I sewed mine in yoghurt pots and when they got big enough (didn't bother pricking them out) stuck the resulting clumps into my veg plot between runner bean plants. Cunning way to water and feed two things at once) Will transplant resulting exuberance (I hope) in autumn. Not perhaps most traditional method, but then I havent got much room for a fancy seedbed.
