Other goodies in the Spud bed

I really like the idea I read of planting other veg at the edges of your Spud bed.
As I made our bed slightly acid (pH 6) for the spuds, what would you suggest for the "lodgers"?

I'd warn against it for the simple reason that potato foliage is big. It is likely to swamp anything planted with 2-3ft (up to 4ft) depending on variety of potato planted.

Sorry WG but every year I put lettuce, radish and even beetroot between mine and always get a crop, just have a little more more space between rows. Basicly I find the sprinter crops are the best for this.

Well I've covered mine in hay this year - so no rows - so closer spacings - so definately no room for others! Unless perhaps round the edges... ?

... and fast cropping salads when they start to go over, and I haven't dug em up yet!

Fair comment young man - could be the difference in our seasons. Radish would finish in time for me (if I liked them) but not lettuce or beetroot. When I think about it, I guess I have taken a catch crop of coriander leaf off the tattie patch before the drills close. In fact, if this hail / sleet would stop, I could go plant some right now since coriander is hardy stuff.

Right ... Mine's going to be lemon coriander and I'll watch out to stop the spud leaves covering them
