I haven't been called a duft wussack yet - should I be feeling left out?  :?  ...well i don't think so anyway...  :D

I'm sure I read somewhere that Bob Flowerdew plants his 'lates' early and his 'earlies' late, because of the growing times required for each category of spud.

I tend to bung all my spuds in the ground at the same time, 'cause then the job is done and I don't have to think about it again for the year.  Next task then becomes protecting green sprouty shoots from frost and giving them a thick mulch of stuff every now and again 'cause I don't do earthing up.
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

I was called a wassuck before you was, WG!!

I've sometimes planted store potatoes if I can't get the seed potato I want, and as long as the potato doesn't have visible problems, it should be okay. Any diseases will be subtle ones, like attracting a few more than normal pests. It's not as if you're going to be throwing tatties around the lotties - are you?
As for the sprouting deterrent used, I get about 75% germination regardless. The only really important thing about tatties, is not to plant in the same spot 2 yrs running - so remember what your rotation areas are.    8)

You won't get a problem no.    There is nothing remotely "unsafe" involved for you.  There is only a slightly higher risk that the potato will give a lower yield if it carries viral disease (of potatoes).
