i have been burning ,the thistles and some of the bramles on my plot,would this also kill the roots off as well ?

but it means that you can see what you're doing when the new shoots come up next year and can spray/strim whatever to control them

Thanks for the replies,i was going to leave all the brambles until the winter as nothing was growing underneath them,the site know all cut them down when i wasnt around,but burning them off is getting rid of them slowly .

Burning off bramble tops will at least let you into the patch but no way will the roots die. If anything, the ash encourages more growth the following year, much like you see regrowth of forests after a major fire. Only way to kill thistles and dock is to chop off the top part close to the ground and either dig out all the roots, or put a few drops of undiluted glyphosphate right on the freshly cut stalk (which will draw it down to the roots). Wear rubber gloves for this.

i was going to try and avoid any chemicals but i think its the best way to get it cleared for next year ,thanks for the advice
