sterilizing the soil
« on: February 12, 2019, 17:44 »
is there anything one could use to sterilize the soil I know its a very grey area because you can do more harm than good because of what's in the ground and it becomes a bit technical for me although I have been told that Jeyes Fluid diluted to around 100 to 1 is an option

I have say I'm a bit sceptical to trying this method and thought I would get some advise before attempting as I said it mite be best left alone

Why does it need sterilising? Jeyes Fluid isn’t sold as a soil steriliser any more!

There are many more beneficial micro-organisms than harmful ones, so random sterilising is likely to do a lot more harm than good.

hello it depends on what pest or virus is in the soil as to sterilize or not when the market garden I worked at got tomato blight we dropped the whole crop 250,000 plants to the floor and flame gunned the lot we went down about half an inch just  to make sure that any leaves that were trampled in were destroyed,  if yours is a small area a flame gun is good it doesn't go down far unless its on worked soil   jezza
