Ok ladies and gentlemen, are you ready for these little darlings?

These were given to me by a friend of a friend, they are supposed to be barn reared but something tells me they have not been living in a barn.

Even my OH who was not very impressed by the thought of more chickens was amazed at the state they are in.

No points for guessing where they really came from !!!!!!!!

Claire

Needless to say they will now have a few weeks of TLC before joining the other girls and Colin.

Their combs are abit light (They are in my spare stable as I dont want them bullied by the others until they get stronger), but they will soon pick up after a few weeks of fresh air and normal chicken life.

Does anyone have a knitting pattern for those chicken vests as one is nearly bald, and my OH really has drawn the line at me fetching it inside to make sure it doesn't freeze!!

If someone could PM me the pattern I can knit it up and keep her warm.  Will even put a piccie on here of her modelling it!!

no, it's probably their combs.. mine looked like that when I got them but are now full and red and upright

well done to you, CK.  If they have been kept in a barn then they've been packed in like sardines with that amount of feather pecking

Keep us updated on their progress  :D

Awwww!

they look just like the 10 girls I got to rehome!

3 months later, what a difference!

Edit - and of course, the big give away is the fact they have had their beaks clipped....

I've been in touch with the ex-bat lady here on the island and apparently we don't have any they are 'imported' from the mainland and so are in short supply.   I can't have local chooks until July

Oh those poor little scraps. Im so glad that they have good home now, and just hope that they have very short memories, and forget their former lives. How can people let creatures suffer like that?

I wonder what the farmers think when the hens get into that condition? Is there really a knitting pattern for coats for hens?  Hope they grow their feathers back very soon.

PM me your email address ck and I'll send you the knitting pattern.

Don't know if anyone's completed one yet.
Julei's just finished a cardigan in black which has taken her ages but she might start one soon.

Mine looked like that 6 months ago.  Now they're bold & inquisitive chooks.  They follow me around the garden all the time chuntering (presumably i'm not exposing worms fast enough for them), and  come running to thier name.

Sarah has almost got all her feathes back, however her chest is still bare and looks like it will remain so, it doesn't seem to bother her.

They always look so sad and confused when you collect them, but don't they come on quickly. They soon realise how much love they are going to get from their new mums and dads.
Happiest in the countryside.
