Hi All,

My stawbs are doing really well with lots of flowers but I notice that a few have started sending out runners, a good 10-15 cm long.  Seems a bit early?

Is there a reason for it?

I have had a quite fine net over them, I have removed this just in case it is having an effect?

I don't know the answer to early runners but you need the nets off so the flowers can get pollinated

yeah that is what I thought about the netting - I was wondering if the runners had anything to do with a lack of polination?

how old are the plants and have they been kept well watered in dry spells

Mine seem to send out runners throughout the entire growing season. I cut them off until after they've fruited then leave one on each plant which I pin into a pot, let it root and snip of from parent plant to ensure a new plants for next year! I have lovely varieties this year with 'pink panda', wild, and wild white straws, can't wait to see how they taste!!

My plants are in their second year now and I haven't seen any runners yet. Should I expect some this year?
