URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!!!!!
« on: April 26, 2008, 22:06 »
Help please. I have a problem here that seems not very hard to fix i just dont know what i am doing. I was cutting the lawn yesterday with a Mculloch 3hp petrol lawn mower with a briggs and stratton engine. Here it is in the argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7302859/Trail/searchtext>LAWN+MOWER.htm

Here is a more indepth spec of the mower
http://www.mcculloch.info/node908.aspx?pid=6422

When all of a sudden it cut out. It starts up but then cuts out immediately after 4 or 5 seconds. A spring is loose next to the carb but i do not know what to connect this up to.
I removed the airfilter and revealed the carb. I primed the engine 3 times and then started her up. As usual she started up but then cut out. The next time i started her up i repeatedly primed petrol through the carb and then engine remained running for as long as i was manually priming petrol thorugh the carb
Is this something to do with the 2 springs that have come loose? Or is it something else??
Could you please get back to me A.S.A.P as my O.H Will kill me if i have broken the damn thing.
Thanks in advance :D

sounds like excactly the same problem as the "mountfield mower not starting" thread. the springs are there as part of the govenor system.
You should find that the engine is the same.
just follow the advice on page two, and all should become clear.
don't worry though, you haven't killed it! it's a very simple fix.

I read the whole of the "Mountfield mower not starting" and it was a huge help. The pictures of the engine helped considerably as it shows the correct place for where the springs go as the springs on my engine are just hanging loosely and not connected to anything. I will post back later today with pictures if i still cant get her going. Such a wonderful site this  :D

I had a fuel blockage in my mower that gave exactly the same symptoms, it cleared up when I cleaned the carburetter out.
