Hi
Mine look like that, but they aren't intertwined! see below. Was very nice but could do with being left a bit longer for some flavour. What causes them to look like this, the soil is very fine, so no stones etc.

weed roots will do it  even bits of twine left in the ground
-
How come all you Suf-folks are lifting parsnips already. Had a frost? :)
-
We've really GOT to club together to buy Munty that camera that takes in focus pictures!
-
Oh.......is that out of focus.......sorry thought I was p*ssed.
Is that why he looks such a hunk in his own photos - or was I p*ssed

Im jealous really as never prepared the ground to get my parsnips in this year.
I've got a bag of Aunt Bessies in the freezer, but it ain't the same.
They've got to be one of my favourite veggies.
-
Well, this is one of mine, and I haven't got any stones either!!!!

had the wrong glasses on
-
Oh dear grannie, too much fresh organic matter can cause misshapen or forked roots. Could that have been the problem ?
-
i stuck mine in the freezer .. on auto frost 8)

My theory is that earlier plantings cause more mis-shapes. Thinking goes as follows ... cold wet ground and baby 'snip has got no incentive to go deep into cold ... later planting equals warmer drier ground so down he goes to ensure he gets water.
Anyone agree or disagree with this?
-
think mine was sown in june
-
And yours GA?

I thought the best stuff for carrots and snips was a nutrient-poor soil composed mainly of sand, with very few roots or stones in. Am I right?

Roots generally did quite well this year, on my end, not much else though...

Hello FifiFlowerTot welcome to the forums :D
-
Well, there was no fresh organic matter on that bit for 2 years, and I think I sowed them there in May, as it was definitely after my spuds, which I planted at Easter! I was late in sowing them, as the first sowings didn't do anything! Probably because it was too cold!
Dug one for dinner tonight, and it was over a foot long (and no forks!!!)
