I've come across an almost full 5 litres of pickling vinegar that I had forgotten about,It's got a best before date of Oct 2011. Do you think it will still be ok later in the year? I don't want to go to the trouble of pickling stuff & then it be no good.

Of course it's all right.  If any bugs can live in pickling vinegar, they would have taken over the world by now !

Yes, it will be fine.  I often keep pickles for a lot longer than a year and they are still fine.
