Title: Hot weather - small pond - disaster warning
Post by: Paul Plots on May 25, 2012, 12:15
The first 24 hours of "hot" weather did it....

.............dead gold fish and emergency action needed.

Over the previous 12 months, despite lots of thinning, the oxygenating pond plants increased. The fish spawned and the pond population soared.

Two days ago a small dead fish was noticed - quite unusual.

We agreed I needed to reduce the pond plants and give more open swimming space just as soon as I had time.

Twenty dead fish (one large one) later the job is done...... it's just a shame I didin't act before. Low over-night oxygen levels had caused the problem....that and me being too slow off the mark.  :(

So - take care - keep an eye on your fish and keep the plants under control

Yep, been there, done that.  :(

Now we have a hi blow air pump on, especially at night.

I'd thought of belting out to buy an air pump but hope the recent natural cull (plants and fish) have improved things.

Once on an air-pump needs to stay on I think
